What does The GAP Project stand for and how do I get involved?

The GAP Project (The Get Acting, People Project) is an initiative to make campaign volunteering as easy and accessible as possible for Gen Z students.

Students entering college this upcoming 2020-2021 school year are considering taking a gap year at an increasing rate. We want to provide these students with a remote gap year option. However, The GAP Project is not limited to students taking a gap year. We encourage all recent high school and college graduates as well as current college students to take our quiz to be placed on a political campaign.

Why does the survey ask if I will need financial aid? Will my chances of being placed on a campaign be diminished?

Currently, we are seeking funding, so that a wider variety of students will be able to enjoy the experience of working on a campaign. At the moment, we are using this question to gauge the demand of such an option. The answer to this question is in no way held against the respondent.

I took the quiz. Now what?

Awesome! Once we receive your results, we immediately begin to review your answers.

  • Within a week, you can expect an email from as offering you a volunteer position on the campaign of a candidate who best matches your values and interests. We will ask for your cv as well as photo proof of ID or we can set up a FaceTime call, if you prefer!

  • Once you respond to our email, we will connect you with the campaign manager or even the candidate themself!

  • If you are unhappy with your result, you may indicate that in your email and we will do all we can to make a perfect match.

Which political party does The GAP Project support?

We are a value rather than party oriented organization.

The GAP Project is committed to supporting candidates who will fight for equality, defend women’s rights, protect immigrants, and legislate for regulations surrounding climate change, gun rights, and health care.

Our ultimate goal is to increase the participation of historically underrepresented groups in politics (i.e. young people, women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community).

I’ve been connected to my perfect campaign. How much work is this going to be?

We’re so glad! Once you are paired, the volunteering tasks will be determined by the campaign. At the moment, our volunteers are predominately assisting with phone/text banking and social media assistance, in other words things that can be done remotely.

Once you’ve been placed, we will check-in with you frequently to ask how much time you’ve spent volunteering and what tasks you’ve been preforming.

These tasks are invaluable for the campaigns, especially during this upcoming election cycle. While your experience might not be just like The West Wing or VEEP, this is the perfect way to make your foray into the world of civic engagement and our political system.

I’m not a recent high school or college graduate or current college student. Can I get involved?

At this time, we are targeted in this demographic because this age group has a notoriously low voter turnout. We want to give these young, eligible voters a stake in our political system, so that they will be motivated to vote in upcoming elections and continue to get acting in order to make our country as just and equitable as possible.
